A seal is a large, round-bodied animal that lives in the ocean but also rests on beaches, rocks, or ice. It has smooth skin, flippers instead of feet, and big dark eyes. Seals are very good swimmers and can dive deep to catch fish, squid, and other sea animals. On land they move by wiggling or bouncing on their bellies. They often make barking or honking sounds and can live in very cold places, like near the North and South Poles.
