🇬🇧 Ramadan meaning: English Vocabulary Flash Card

noun
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and a very special time for Muslims. During Ramadan, healthy adult Muslims do not eat or drink anything from the moment the sky starts to get light in the morning until the sun goes down in the evening. This is called fasting. They eat a meal before dawn, and then they break their fast with a meal after sunset, often starting with dates and water. In Ramadan, Muslims also try to pray more, read their holy book (the Qur’an), be extra kind, give to people in need, and avoid bad habits. It is a month for learning self-control, being grateful, and feeling closer to God and to other people who may be hungry. When Ramadan ends, Muslims celebrate a big festival called Eid al-Fitr.
