🇬🇧 Asbestos meaning: English Vocabulary Flash Card

noun
Asbestos is a soft, grayish-white material that does not burn easily. Long ago, people used asbestos in buildings, walls, and even some clothes to protect against fire and to keep heat in or out, like insulation in an attic. Later, scientists discovered that tiny pieces of asbestos can break off, float in the air, and get into people’s lungs if they breathe it in, which can make them very sick. Because of this, asbestos is now considered very dangerous, and workers have to wear special protective gear to safely remove it from old buildings.

💬 Example Sentences
