“Under” means something is lower than the surface you can see, or hidden beneath it. If a fish is under the water, it is swimming below the top of the water. If a worm is under the soil, it is wiggling beneath the ground. When you look at something from the outside, “under” is where things are hiding or resting below that outside part.
