📖 The Midnight Zoo Parade

On a cool autumn evening, Emma and her brother Daniel visited a very unusual zoo. The sign outside read: The Midnight Zoo – Where Animals Come to Life After Dark. Curious and excited, they stepped inside as the moon rose high in the sky.

The first animal they saw was a tall pink flamingo standing by a pond. The elegant flamingo balanced perfectly on one leg, glowing softly in the moonlight. Not far away, a slow and wise tortoise plodded along the path. “The tortoise has probably lived longer than us all,” Daniel whispered.

From the trees above, a playful chimpanzee swung down, grinning cheekily. “That chimpanzee looks like it’s planning a trick,” Emma laughed. Beside it, a proud peacock spread its colourful feathers. The peacock looked like a walking rainbow, shimmering under the stars.

Suddenly, a dark shadow flew overhead. “It’s a bat!” cried Daniel. The little bat flapped its wings quickly, circling above their heads. On the wall nearby, a large spider spun a shining silver web. The spider worked so quickly that its web glittered like a net of jewels.

The children followed the sounds of rustling leaves and found a huge gorilla beating its chest. The gorilla looked strong but also gentle, and it gave them a nod as if to say hello. By the water, an alligator floated with only its eyes above the surface. “The alligator is watching us very carefully,” Emma whispered.

In a wide pool, a mighty hippopotamus opened its mouth so wide that Emma could almost see its tonsils. The hippopotamus then sank slowly into the water with a giant splash. Just across the way, an orangutan sat quietly, eating fruit with thoughtful eyes. The orangutan seemed to be deep in meditation.

The children moved on and spotted a sleepy koala hugging a tree branch. The little koala yawned, looking so peaceful that Emma wished she could hug it too. Then, they came across a powerful rhinoceros, its horn shining in the moonlight. The rhinoceros stamped its foot as if protecting its territory.

In the icy corner of the zoo, a giant polar bear rolled in the snow. The white polar bear shook itself off, sending icy sparkles flying through the air. In the shadows nearby, a wolf howled at the moon. The sound of the wolf echoed across the whole zoo, both scary and beautiful.

Down by the cold water, a massive walrus lifted its head, showing off its long tusks. The walrus clapped its fins together, almost like it was applauding the night. Then, with jingling bells around their necks, a herd of reindeer trotted past. Each reindeer looked proud, as though ready to pull Santa’s sleigh.

As the moon reached its highest point, all the animals gathered together for the parade. The flamingo led with grace, the chimpanzee danced, the peacock shone, the wolf howled, and the reindeer pranced. Emma and Daniel clapped their hands with joy.

When the night ended, the animals slowly returned to their places. The children left the Midnight Zoo, their hearts full of wonder. “I’ll never forget the gorilla, the polar bear, or the walrus,” said Daniel. Emma smiled. “Nor the tortoise, the peacock, or the wolf. It was the most magical zoo parade in the world.”
