📖 A Winter Night in the Mountains

It was a cold winter night in the little mountain village of Glenford. The wind howled around the houses, and the streets were covered in thick white snow. Inside a small wooden cabin, Emma sat close to the fire, holding a cup of hot tea in her hands.

She had spent the whole day skiing on the mountain with her friends. The air had been crisp, the snow perfect, and the view from the top breathtaking. But now the heat from the fire felt even better. She wrapped herself tighter in a wool blanket, her red jacket and thick sweater hanging nearby to dry.

Her younger brother, Tom, was still outside. “Come on, Tom! It’s freezing!” she called from the doorway. But Tom was laughing, throwing another snowball at their neighbour Ben. The wind blew the snow into his face, and he let out a cheerful shout before running towards the cabin.

When Tom finally came in, his cheeks were bright pink. “You look like a tomato,” Emma teased, handing him a cup of tea. “Here, sit by the heater before you freeze solid.”

Tom grinned. “I almost forgot how warm this cabin feels. The heater and the fire make it perfect.”

They sat together, listening to the wind outside. The night grew colder, and soon the windows began to freeze at the edges. Emma added another log to the fire, watching the flames dance. The heat filled the room, chasing away the chill.

“Do you remember last winter,” Tom asked, “when we tried to skate on the frozen pond near the mountain?”

Emma laughed. “Yes! You fell into the snow every two minutes. But it was fun.”

Tom nodded. “We should go skating again tomorrow morning. The wind will be calmer then.”

“Maybe,” Emma said with a smile. “But let’s wear two sweaters each this time.”

Outside, the wind began to slow, and the night became peaceful. The smell of burning wood mixed with the scent of tea and melting snow. The blanket around Emma felt soft and warm, and she could hear the quiet crackle of the fire.

Before going to bed, she looked out the window at the mountain glowing faintly under the moonlight. The world was quiet, covered in white, and full of calm beauty.

As she turned off the heater and climbed under another blanket, Emma whispered, “There’s nothing better than a winter night with a fire, tea, and a little warmth.”

And somewhere outside, a soft wind blew over the snowy mountain, carrying with it the promise of another day full of snowballs, skiing, and laughter.
