📖 The Day Everything Changed
Oliver woke up early on Monday. He wanted to get ready before school, but he could not find his homework. He began to think hard about where he had put it. “Did I leave it in the kitchen?” he wondered.
He went downstairs to see if it was on the table. His mother was making tea, and she said, “If you can’t find it, just ask me to help.” Oliver didn’t want to give up so easily, so he decided to try looking in his schoolbag again.
Finally, he managed to get the papers from the bottom of the bag. “Here it is!” he said. He could feel happy at last. His mother smiled and said, “I always tell you to put things in the right place.”
At school, his teacher asked the class to make a poster about animals. Oliver wanted to use bright colours. He began to work hard, but then he started to think his drawing looked strange. He decided to ask his friend Sophie for advice.
Sophie said, “I can help you. Just try to put more green for the grass.” Oliver did as she said, and it looked better. He wanted to give her a thank-you note later.
After class, the teacher said, “You all did well. Now I will tell you something important. Tomorrow we will leave the classroom and work outside in the garden.” The students began to feel excited.
On the way home, Oliver’s dad called him on the phone. “Can you get some bread from the shop?” he asked. Oliver agreed. When he got there, he could not find the right bread at first. He had to use his eyes carefully to see the one his dad wanted.
Back at home, Oliver’s dad said, “Thank you for helping me. I will give you a little pocket money.” Oliver smiled and thought, “Today I learned something: when I try, when I ask, and when I help, I always feel better.”
That night, Oliver lay in bed and began to think again. He could still see his bright poster in his mind. He wanted to make an even bigger one tomorrow. “If I put in the effort and never leave things undone, I can always do well,” he whispered to himself.
Just before he closed his eyes, he said quietly, “I will call tomorrow a new start.”
