📖 A Thankful November Dinner

It was the last week of November, and Emma’s house was full of warm smells and cheerful voices. Her family had been preparing all day for the special dinner, and even her best friend Lily had come to help.

In the kitchen, a golden turkey was roasting in the oven. Beside it, trays of sweet corn, mashed potatoes, and fresh bread were waiting. On the counter sat a perfect pumpkin pie, cooling slowly. “This is going to be the best meal we’ve ever had,” Emma said.

Her mum was stirring the gravy, making sure it was smooth. “Every good dinner needs the perfect gravy,” she said with a smile. Lily nodded in agreement while sneaking a small piece of bread.

By the time the sun set, the big table in the dining room was covered with delicious food. Bowls of corn, plates of potatoes, and baskets of warm bread surrounded the shining turkey. In the centre sat the pumpkin pie, ready for dessert.

When everyone gathered around, Emma’s dad stood and said, “Before we start, let’s say what we’re thankful for.” One by one, each person spoke.

“I’m thankful for my family,” said Emma.

“I’m thankful for my friends,” Lily added.

Emma’s grandmother smiled and said, “I’m thankful for good food and warm homes.”

After each person spoke, the room echoed with “Thank you” as they appreciated each other’s words.

Finally, the meal began. The turkey was tender, the gravy rich and flavourful. The corn was sweet, the potatoes creamy, and the bread soft and warm. Every minute was filled with laughter, stories, and the passing of plates.

When the main meal was finished, Emma’s mum brought out the pumpkin pie. The smell filled the whole room, and everyone eagerly took a slice. “Thank you,” said Emma’s little brother after his first bite. “This is the best pie ever!”

As the night went on, the table was still covered in bits of food, but everyone was full and happy. Emma looked around at her family and friends and thought about how lucky she was. It wasn’t just the turkey or the pie or the gravy that made the day special — it was the people sharing it.

Before they left, Lily hugged Emma. “Same time next November?” she asked.

Emma smiled. “Definitely. And next time, we’ll make two pumpkin pies.”

And with that, another warm November evening came to an end, leaving everyone truly thankful.
