📖 A Happy New Year’s Night
It was New Year’s Eve, and everyone in Brighton was getting ready for the party. The day had been cold and grey, but the night promised to be full of light, sound, and fun.
In Emma’s house, her family gathered together. Her mum cooked a big meal, and everyone sat around the table to eat. There were hot pies, roasted vegetables, and sweet cakes. “This is so good,” said Emma’s brother, taking another bite. “We should eat like this every day.”
After dinner, Emma’s dad brought out some drinks. “It’s time to drink and be merry!” he laughed. Everyone lifted their glasses and said, “Cheers!” The family felt happy as they waited for midnight to come.
Soon, the neighbours arrived, and the party began. There was lively music, and Emma and her friends began to dance. They moved around the room, laughing, clapping, and spinning. “This is so much fun!” shouted Emma. Her little cousin joined in, trying to dance too, which made everyone happy.
Then the older cousins started to sing. They chose cheerful songs that everyone knew. The voices mixed with the sound of the music, filling the house with joy. Even Emma’s grandmother, who rarely sang, joined in with a big smile.
As the time grew closer to midnight, everyone’s eyes turned to the big clock on the wall. “Five minutes left until the New Year,” said Emma’s mum. The room went quiet for a moment. Then, with two minutes left, the music stopped, and everyone gathered together, holding hands.
“Ten… nine… eight…” the room counted down. The clock ticked loudly as the last seconds of the old year disappeared. “Three… two… one… Happy New Year!”
Outside, bright fireworks filled the night sky. Red, blue, and golden lights exploded above the houses. Emma ran to the window, her eyes wide. “Look! The fireworks are amazing!” Her brother nodded. “This is the best night ever.”
The party grew even louder. People hugged, shouted “Happy New Year!” and wished each other good luck for the months ahead. The music started again, faster this time, and everyone returned to dance, sing, eat, and drink until late.
By the end of the night, Emma was tired but still smiling. She sat with her family, watching the last of the fireworks fade away. “This has been such a good day,” she said softly. “I hope the whole New Year will be just as happy.”
And with that, she closed her eyes, the sound of laughter and music still echoing in her mind, ready for a fresh start and many more nights of fun.
