📖 The Easter Sunday Hunt

It was a bright Sunday morning in early spring. The grass in the village green was fresh and green, and tiny flowers danced in the breeze. Children from all around had gathered for the annual Easter hunt, a tradition everyone loved.

Ellie held her basket tightly. She could already see shiny chocolate shapes peeking out from behind pink tulips and yellow daffodils. Somewhere in the field, the bunny had been busy hiding treats. Ellie imagined the bunny hopping along the grass, placing each egg and piece of candy carefully.

Near the old oak tree, a fluffy chick was chirping beside a small lamb. Ellie thought they looked like something out of a storybook—especially with the soft yellow feathers of the chick and the snow-white wool of the lamb.

The bell from the church rang across the green, reminding everyone that later there would be a service. The church would be decorated with flowers, and a large wooden cross stood at the front, shining in the sunlight.

“Ready, set, go!” shouted Mr Thompson, the organiser. The children ran in every direction, their baskets swinging as they searched. Ellie spotted a pink foil-wrapped egg under a bench. She placed it gently in her basket, then hurried to find more.

The hunt became more exciting when she saw a golden chocolate bunny hidden among the grass. She almost didn’t notice the tiny candy eggs nearby. Into the basket they went! Her spring collection was growing quickly—eggs, bunnies, chicks, and sweets of all colours.

On her way to the far corner of the green, Ellie found something special: a hand-painted egg with yellow and pink patterns. “This must be the prize egg!” she whispered.

After the hunt, everyone gathered outside the church. The cross was decorated with bright flowers, and the air smelled sweet from all the spring blooms. The vicar thanked the villagers for coming and spoke about kindness and sharing. Ellie thought about how the bunny had hidden so many treats for them, and how everyone was smiling together.

Back at home, Ellie placed her treasures on the table—her basket full of chocolate, candy, and even a little toy lamb she had won as a prize. Her younger brother admired the soft yellow plush chick she had chosen to share with him.

It had been the best Easter Sunday yet—filled with grass, flowers, laughter, and the joy of the hunt. Ellie couldn’t wait for next spring when the bunny would return to hide more eggs beneath the pink blossoms and yellow sun.
