📖 The Brightest Christmas Star

It was the evening before Christmas, and the Johnson house was full of excitement. The family had been preparing for the holiday all week, and now the big day was almost here. The children ran from room to room, hanging light after light, while their aunt wrapped presents in the corner of the living room.

Outside, soft snow began to fall, covering the garden in a white blanket. “It’s perfect!” shouted Emily, the youngest cousin, as she pressed her face against the window. Her brother Ben laughed. “We’ll have a white Christmas after all!”

In the middle of the living room stood a tall tree, decorated with shiny baubles and tinsel. At the very top, there was a small empty space. “Where’s the star?” asked Grandma.

“It’s here!” said Grandpa proudly, holding a golden star in his hand. Everyone clapped as he climbed a small stool and placed it carefully on the top of the tree. The light from the fairy lamps reflected off the gold, making it sparkle.

By afternoon, all the guests had arrived. The aunt, the cousin, and even the grandparents from the countryside came in with warm hugs and cold noses. The house was filled with noise and laughter, the kind that only happens when a big family is together.

In the kitchen, Mum was busy preparing dinner. The smell of roasted turkey and potatoes filled the air. “Don’t touch anything yet!” she warned, as Ben tried to sneak a piece of stuffing. “Wait until dinner time!”

At six o’clock, everyone gathered around the long table. The children were excited, and the grandparents smiled as they watched them. The golden light from the candles flickered across the room, and the snow outside made everything feel calm and magical.

They said a short toast to family and holiday memories. Then the feast began. The turkey was delicious, the gravy perfect, and the laughter endless. Grandpa told a joke that made everyone laugh so hard that even the serious aunt couldn’t stop giggling.

After dinner, they all moved to the living room again. The children sang carols around the tree, their voices soft and cheerful. The star at the top seemed to shine even brighter, as if it were listening.

Later that night, when most of the guests had left and the house grew quiet, Emily stood by the window once more. She looked out at the falling snow and whispered, “This was the best Christmas ever.”

Her grandparent smiled and hugged her. “Do you know why?” he asked.

“Because of the tree? The turkey? The presents?” she guessed.

He shook his head. “Because of family, my dear. That’s what makes Christmas shine brighter than any star.”

Emily nodded, her eyes full of warmth. Outside, the snow kept falling softly, as the house glowed with the gentle light of love, peace, and laughter.
