Oliver woke up early with a big smile on his face. Today was his birthday. He was turning a new age, and he couldn’t wait to see how his family and friends would help him celebrate.
When he came downstairs, the living room looked magical. Bright balloons floated in the air, a colourful banner said “Happy Birthday!”, and on the table sat a big chocolate cake. His mum was busy putting a candle on top for every year of his age, and his dad was blowing up even more balloons.
“Good morning, birthday boy!” said his sister, handing him a shiny card with glitter on it. Inside, she had written a sweet message and added a little drawing of a party hat.
Soon the doorbell rang. Oliver’s best friend, Sophie, arrived carrying a small box. “Here’s your present,” she said with a grin. Inside was a new toy car he had wanted for months. “I hope you like this gift!”
More friends came, each with a card or a gift wrapped in bright paper. Some gave funny books, others brought puzzles or small toys, and his grandparents brought him a special present—a photo album filled with family pictures. Oliver thought it was the most important gift of all, because it showed how much love his family shared.
When everyone was ready, Oliver put on a silly party hat. His mum brought the cake to the table, now glowing with shining candles. Everyone sang “Happy Birthday” together. Oliver closed his eyes, made a secret wish, and blew out all the candles at once. “What did you wish for?” asked Sophie. Oliver laughed, “If I tell you, it won’t come true!”
After the song, the children played games. They had so much fun trying to pop balloons, race with spoons, and dance with their hats on. Even the grown-ups joined in, and the whole party was filled with laughter.
When it was time to eat, they cut the delicious cake into slices. Everyone agreed it was the best chocolate cake they had ever tasted. Oliver felt so lucky—he had wonderful friends, a loving family, and a day full of fun.
As the party ended, Oliver hugged everyone and said thank you for each present and each card. “This was the best birthday ever,” he said. His mum smiled. “Every age brings new memories, but today was very special.”
That night, as Oliver went to bed, he thought about his secret wish. He decided that even if it didn’t come true, the love of his family and the joy of his friends were already the greatest gifts of all.
