📖 The Great Farmyard Adventure

Tom lived on a busy farm where every animal had its own story. Early in the morning, his dog barked loudly to wake him up, while the cat stretched lazily on the windowsill. Outside, the cow mooed impatiently for breakfast, and the sheep bleated in reply.

Tom put on his boots and ran to the barn. The pig was rolling in the mud, snorting happily, while the goat tried to climb on top of a barrel. Nearby, the chicken scratched the ground looking for grain, and the duck splashed noisily in a puddle.

In the rabbit hutch, a small rabbit twitched its nose as Tom brought fresh carrots. Suddenly, a tiny mouse ran past, making the cat leap from the window and chase it across the yard. The whole scene made Tom laugh.

But the farm was not the only home of animals. Behind the fields, there was a small river where colourful fish swam. Birds of many kinds sat in the trees—each bird singing a different song. Sometimes, Tom would sit quietly and listen to them, feeling the farm was alive with music.

One afternoon, Tom’s father surprised him. “We’re going to the zoo today!” he said. Tom’s eyes shone with excitement. At the zoo, the animals were bigger and wilder than those at home. He saw a giant elephant waving its long trunk, and he marvelled at its size. A proud lion lay in the sun, roaring just once to show his strength. Next to it, a tiger paced back and forth, its orange and black stripes shining in the light.

Tom compared them to his farm animals. The cow was calm, the sheep were gentle, the goat was playful, and the pig was funny. But the lion and the tiger were strong and fierce, while the elephant seemed wise and kind. He realised that all animals—big or small, tame or wild—were special in their own way.

On the way home, Tom thought about his favourites. He loved his dog, who was loyal, and his cat, who was clever. He liked the noisy chicken and the quacking duck, the hopping rabbit, and even the quick little mouse. But he also admired the mighty lion, the striped tiger, and the gentle elephant.

That night, back in his room, Tom whispered, “Goodnight, animals,” as the dog curled up at his feet and the cat purred softly. In his dreams, the fish swam, the birds flew, the horse galloped across fields, and the farmyard animals lived side by side with the great wild creatures of the world.

It was, Tom decided, the best adventure he’d ever had.
