📖 The Secret Safari of Shadows

Oliver had always loved wild animals, but nothing prepared him for the adventure that began one quiet evening. While travelling through South America, he stumbled upon a hidden valley that locals called The Sanctuary of Shadows. It was said that rare animals gathered there under the moonlight.

The first creature he saw was a curious meerkat standing upright, scanning the horizon. Another meerkat popped up beside it, twitching its nose nervously. Their alert little eyes seemed to warn Oliver to tread carefully.

Not far away, a ring-tailed lemur leapt gracefully from branch to branch. The lemur called out with a sharp cry, and its long tail swished like a banner in the air.

Across the plain, a towering ostrich darted past. The ostrich ran with such speed that Oliver could barely follow it with his eyes. By a rock, a scaly green iguana lay basking, still even in the moonlight. The iguana turned its head slowly, blinking lazily at him.

Suddenly, dark wings passed above. A vulture circled high, watching with sharp eyes. Another vulture joined it, gliding silently as if waiting for something to happen.

By the riverbank, two playful otters splashed in the water. One otter held a small stone and tapped it against a shell, while the other slid into the stream with a squeak of delight. On the sandy ground nearby, an armadillo rolled itself into a ball. The second armadillo uncurled cautiously, its armour shining faintly.

From the reeds, the world’s largest rodent appeared: a capybara. The capybara looked calm, chewing gently on grass, and another capybara followed close behind like a shadow.

In the distance, a graceful gazelle bounded across the plain. The gazelle leapt so lightly that it seemed to float in the air. But then came the sound of laughter—not human laughter, but the eerie call of a hyena. The hyena emerged from the darkness with its spotted coat glinting, followed by another with glowing eyes.

A sleek jaguar prowled near the trees, its golden fur patterned with black rosettes. The jaguar moved silently, like a ghost in the jungle. Higher up, a leopard rested on a branch, watching from above. The leopard yawned, showing its teeth, but kept a careful eye on the ground below.

Next, Oliver came across a friendly llama chewing cud beside a stone wall. The llama blinked slowly at him, unconcerned. From a nearby tree, a bright macaw spread its wings. The colourful macaw squawked loudly, waking the night with its voice.

In the northern corner of the valley stood a mighty moose. The moose lowered its enormous antlers, pawing the ground with a deep grunt. Then Oliver spotted a porcupine, its quills raised like tiny spears. Another porcupine shuffled past, rattling its spines as if issuing a warning.

By dawn, the valley was alive with sound—the laughter of the hyena, the cry of the macaw, the chatter of the meerkat, and the whisper of the wind through the gazelle’s leaps. Oliver realised he had stepped into a hidden world, one where the wildest animals gathered not for fear or survival, but for a mysterious midnight meeting.

He promised never to reveal the secret, for the jaguar and the leopard were still watching, their eyes glowing gold in the fading night.
