📖 The Necromancer’s Return

Terror hung thick in the air as the villagers gathered beneath the ruined abbey walls. A ghastly mist curled through the graveyard, twisting into shapes that seemed almost human. The place had long been whispered of as bewitched, for it was said a necromancer once performed his fiendish rites there, summoning forces that no mortal should command.

Now, after centuries of uneasy silence, menacing shadows moved again among the stones. The people dreaded what they might see, yet none dared to turn away. For within that eldritch fog, a revenant stirred—a pale figure, risen from its tomb, eyes glowing with a ghoulish light.

Lady Eleanor, known for her courage, spoke firmly though her voice quavered. “This wicked evil must not spread. We must prepare an exorcism before night deepens.” Yet her words only heightened the dread, for few among them knew the sacred rites, and fewer still had the will to stand against such malevolent power.

Suddenly, the silence was shattered by a horrifying crash. Stones tumbled from the cloister walls, and a poltergeist shrieked with petrifying fury. Invisible hands hurled objects through the air, smashing lanterns and leaving the villagers in near darkness. Children screamed, mothers clutched their cloaks tighter, and strong men faltered beneath the unseen assault.

Out of the mist, the necromancer’s revenant advanced. His face was as ghastly as the tales had promised, a mask of eternal anguish twisted by wicked intent. He lifted a hand, and with fiendish delight summoned more poltergeists to his side. Their menacing wails drove the villagers back, but Eleanor held firm, clutching a silver cross that glowed faintly in the eldritch haze.

The villagers dreaded the moment that was coming, but they could not escape it. The bewitched ground seemed to clutch at their feet, dragging them toward the revenant’s grasp. The air filled with ghastly laughter, wicked and malevolent, echoing like the tolling of a funeral bell.

Just when hope faltered, the vicar raised his voice in prayer. The words of the exorcism rang out, trembling yet resolute. The necromancer howled in horrifying rage, his revenant form flickering like fire in the wind. The ghoulish poltergeists shrieked, their fiendish energy unravelled by the force of the sacred chant.

The mist swirled violently, the eldritch storm collapsing in upon itself. With a final menacing cry, the revenant crumbled into ash, and the necromancer’s power dissolved. Silence returned, though the terror remained etched upon every face.

The villagers knew they had survived, yet also that the wicked shadow of the necromancer might one day return. For such dread cannot be wholly vanquished; it lingers, waiting, like a ghastly scar upon the land.
