📖 A Saturday of Small Deals
On a grey Saturday morning, Oliver walked into the busy mall, hoping the mall would distract him from a long week at work. He needed food, so his first stop was the grocery shop, a large grocery store full of bright lights and quiet ambition. As a careful consumer, he liked to think about every choice a consumer makes.
He took a metal cart from the entrance, pushed the cart forward, and turned into the first aisle. Each aisle was packed with colourful goods, and the goods were neatly arranged by brand. Oliver compared one brand with another, wondering which brand offered the best value.
At the end of the aisle, a friendly seller stood by a tasting stand. The seller spoke warmly about a special deal, calling it the best deal of the week. Oliver listened carefully. He liked a good bargain, and this sounded like a real bargain.
Further on, he noticed a handwritten sign near the counter. The counter displayed discounted goods, and a note promised an easy exchange if anything was wrong. Oliver appreciated that he could exchange an item without trouble.
He added a few things to his cart and headed towards the cashier. The cashier smiled politely, scanning each item with calm speed. As a consumer, Oliver knew that behind the smile, the system cared about profit. Every profit kept the store alive, even if the consumer only saw prices.
At the counter, Oliver decided to purchase everything he had chosen. He often preferred to purchase carefully, rather than rush. He paid by debit, tapping his debit card while the cashier printed the receipt.
One item rang up incorrectly, so Oliver politely asked to exchange it. The cashier nodded and called the seller from earlier. The seller helped quickly, explaining that mistakes happen when managing so many goods.
Receipt in hand, Oliver walked back through the mall, passing another grocery shop and many tempting windows. The mall buzzed with people chasing the next deal, each consumer hoping to win a small victory.
As Oliver stepped outside, he felt quietly satisfied. He had found a bargain, made a smart purchase, and understood that behind every smile, every cashier, and every seller, the balance between value and profit never truly rests.
