📖 The Night in Blackwood Cemetery
The wind howled through Blackwood Cemetery as Daniel and Claire pushed open the rusty gates. They had heard a rumor about a graveyard keeper who brewed strange potions under the full moon.
“This place is creepy,” Claire whispered, pulling her coat tighter.
“Don’t let it scare you,” Daniel replied, though the flickering light from a distant jack-o’-lantern made him uneasy.
They walked past rows of tombstones, some broken, some covered in thick cobwebs. The moonlight turned the stone angels into strange, frightening shadows.
A sudden howl echoed. Claire froze. “Was that a werewolf?”
Daniel didn’t answer. He was staring at a tall figure near a crumbling mausoleum. The figure moved stiffly, like a zombie. Its pale hands reached out before disappearing behind a row of graves.
The two friends followed cautiously, their steps crunching on dry leaves. The air grew colder. Behind the mausoleum, they found a small hut. Inside, a large black cauldron bubbled over a fire, filled with a glowing green potion. On a shelf beside it sat an old broomstick and a skull-shaped candle.
Claire whispered, “This is spooky. I think we should leave.”
Before Daniel could answer, the door creaked open. A woman in a long cloak stepped inside, her face hidden in shadow. She stirred the cauldron with the broomstick handle and muttered something under her breath.
Claire gasped. “She’s doing magic.”
The woman turned slowly. Her eyes glowed in the dim light. “You shouldn’t be here,” she said in a low voice. “This is no place for the living.”
A sudden movement caught Daniel’s eye. From the corner of the hut, a mummy wrapped in old, dusty bandages shuffled toward them. Behind it, another zombie emerged, dragging one foot.
Claire’s heart raced. The woman smiled. “My friends are very protective.”
The friends backed away, but the creatures followed. Outside, the wind grew stronger. The howl of the werewolf returned, louder this time.
Claire tripped over a tombstone, nearly falling into a cobweb stretched between two old crosses. Daniel pulled her up, and they ran through the graveyard, past the glowing jack-o’-lantern that now seemed to grin wider.
They reached the gates and didn’t stop until the cemetery was far behind them. Only then did they slow down.
“That was the most frightening night of my life,” Claire said, still shaking.
Daniel nodded. “It was more than just creepy—it felt real. The magic, the potion, even the mummy…”
“And the werewolf,” Claire added.
Daniel looked back toward the dark silhouette of the graveyard. “Let’s never come here again.”
But in the distance, a faint green glow rose over the cemetery, and a low voice whispered on the wind: “Come back… the cauldron is waiting.”
