📖 The Tale of the Wand and the Shield
In the kingdom of Aeloria, people whispered a dark tale about an evil wizard who lived in the Black Mountains. This wizard carried a silver wand that could spread poison into the air and turn friends into enemies filled with hate. Many had tried to stop him, but none had won.
Among those who dreamed of ending his rule was Sir Roland, a young knight with a brave heart. He carried a steel shield, not only to block swords but also to protect those weaker than him. “I will fight the wizard,” he declared, “and I will bring victory to the kingdom.”
But Roland’s path was not simple. The wizard was guarded by creatures from the darkest stories: a terrible troll who lurked under the stone bridge, a roaring dragon whose flames could melt armour, and a giant who could crush castles with his fists. Each monster was bound to the wizard by spells of hate.
Before Roland began his journey, his stepmother, Lady Isolde, called him to her chambers. Though stepmothers in many tales were cruel, Lady Isolde was wise. “The wizard will use trickery,” she warned. “He will hide in disguise, and he will offer you false peace. Remember, only truth will help you defeat him. Take this potion to heal, for the road is long.”
Roland thanked her and set out. His first trial came at the bridge. The troll demanded gold to cross, but Roland lifted his shield and said, “I will not pay in coin, but I will pay in courage.” A short fight followed, and with skill and kindness, Roland spared the troll. Surprised, the creature let him pass and whispered, “Not all battles need hate.”
Next, the dragon descended from the clouds, fire pouring from its mouth. Roland raised his shield and waited for the flames to fade. He remembered his stepmother’s words and spoke: “Great beast, you are bound by the wizard’s spell. Do not let his evil win.” The dragon paused, its eyes clearing, and with a mighty roar, it flew away, freed from the curse.
Then came the giant, taller than towers, who stomped the ground so hard that Roland nearly fell. They clashed in a fierce fight, but Roland’s courage did not falter. With every blow he blocked, he shouted, “You are more than his servant! Break free!” At last, the giant dropped his weapon and walked away, no longer a prisoner of poison magic.
Finally, Roland entered the Black Mountains. The wizard, cloaked in disguise, appeared as a poor man begging for food. But Roland saw through the trick. “Your lies cannot hide your evil heart,” he said. With his shield shining and the strength of his friends’ freedom behind him, Roland faced the wizard in the final fight.
The clash of wand against steel rang across the mountains. At last, Roland struck the wand from the wizard’s hand. With that, the spell of hate shattered. The land was free.
The people sang of Roland’s victory, a tale that would be told for generations: of courage that could defeat darkness, and of a knight whose truth was stronger than any disguise.
