It was the tenth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Green, and their children wanted to make it a special occasion. Emily and Jack sent an invitation to every friend and neighbour, making sure each guest knew to arrive exactly at seven. “It will be a surprise,” whispered Jack, grinning.
On the big day, the children worked hard to decorate the hall. Bright banners were stretched across the walls, and colourful balloons filled the corners. Emily sprinkled sparkling confetti on the tables while Jack set out plates of snacks. “No event is complete without proper food,” Emily said, carrying trays of sandwiches and fruit.
At half past six, they carefully lifted the big cake onto the table. It was covered in soft pink frosting, smooth and sweet. “Don’t touch it until Mum and Dad unwrap their gift,” Emily warned, though Jack was tempted. He placed a bowl of chocolates next to the cake for an extra treat.
As the first guest arrived, Emily put on a lively song. The music filled the room, and everyone began to smile. “We must keep quiet until they come,” whispered Mrs Brown, holding another plate of snacks. The atmosphere grew with excitement.
Soon, the event was ready. The lights dimmed, and the children shouted for silence. Suddenly, the door opened—Mr and Mrs Green stepped in. The whole crowd jumped up with a loud cheer. The couple froze, surprised to see the room shining with balloons, banners, and glittering confetti raining down.
“What a surprise!” laughed Mrs Green. “I thought we were only going out for dinner.” Mr Green smiled as the children handed them a beautifully wrapped box. “Go on, unwrap it!” Emily urged. Inside lay a silver photo frame, engraved with their names and the date of their wedding.
Music played again, and another joyful song filled the room. Everyone began to dance, laugh, and enjoy the treats. The cake was finally cut, the sweet frosting sticking to happy fingers. “This is the best occasion we’ve ever had,” said Mrs Green warmly.
People ate plenty of food, nibbled on little snacks, and even asked for more. The children felt proud that their plan had worked. “We wanted to make your anniversary perfect,” Emily said.
At the end of the night, the last guest waved goodbye. The floor was covered with shining pieces of confetti, and the banner still hung proudly. Mr and Mrs Green hugged their children. “Thank you for this beautiful event,” said Mr Green. “It was truly unforgettable.”
The room echoed with laughter, memories, and the sound of one last cheerful song—a reminder that love, family, and friendship are always worth celebrating.
