Tom loved exploring new places. One summer morning, he set out on an adventure into the mountains. The air was fresh, and he soon discovered a hidden valley full of creatures he had never seen together before.
At the edge of the forest, a clever fox darted between the trees. Its red fur shone in the sunlight, and its sharp eyes watched everything carefully. Not far behind, a grey wolf stood proudly, its howl echoing across the valley. Tom froze for a moment but soon realised the wolf was not hunting him—it was calling to its pack.
Near a stream, a gentle deer bent its head to drink water. Its quiet movements made the forest feel calm. Just beside the water, Tom noticed something strange: an octopus moving its arms through the shallow river. “What’s an octopus doing here?” Tom whispered. The octopus seemed perfectly at home, waving as if it had eight hands.
On the rocks nearby, a red crab scuttled sideways, clicking its claws. Tom crouched down and saw a tiny ant carrying a leaf much larger than its own body. He smiled at its strength.
When he walked further, he reached a sandy clearing where a tall camel stood chewing slowly. It looked out of place among the green trees, but its calm eyes followed Tom’s every step. High above, an eagle circled, its wings spread wide, while an owl sat silently on a branch, blinking in the daylight.
The ground shook suddenly, and Tom turned to see a giant rhinoceros stomping through the valley. Its horn glistened, strong and sharp. Right behind it, a heavy hippopotamus splashed noisily in a muddy pool. Both animals looked powerful and unstoppable.
But then, something lighter caught Tom’s eye. A colourful butterfly fluttered past, its wings glowing in the sun. It landed on his shoulder for a moment, as if to guide him. He followed it to a pond, where a slow turtle crawled onto a rock to rest.
Around the pond, life was busy. A buzzing bee flew from flower to flower, collecting nectar, while a little fly zipped quickly past Tom’s face, making him laugh as he tried to swat it away.
At the far end of the valley, the air grew colder. Snow lay on the ground, and there, standing tall, was a great polar bear. Its white fur made it almost invisible in the snow, but its dark eyes sparkled with curiosity.
By the time the sun began to set, Tom had met every creature: the sly fox, the strong wolf, the gentle deer, the strange octopus, the quick crab and tiny ant, the desert camel, the flying eagle and wise owl, the mighty rhinoceros and hippopotamus, the delicate butterfly, the slow turtle, the busy bee and the annoying fly, and finally the powerful polar bear.
Tom realised this valley was magical, a place where animals from land, sea, and sky lived together in peace. As he left, he promised himself never to forget the secret of the hidden valley.
