📖 The Grand Zoo Adventure

It was a bright Saturday morning when Oliver and Sophie visited the city zoo with their grandparents. The children could not wait to see all the animals they had only read about in books.

The first stop was the lion enclosure. The great golden lion stood proudly on a rock, its mane shining in the sun. “The lion is called the king of animals,” said Granddad. Just beside, a striped tiger prowled slowly, its sharp eyes watching everything. Sophie whispered, “The tiger looks like it’s ready to pounce!”

Next, they walked to the tall giraffe house. The giraffe bent down its long neck to eat leaves from a branch that Sophie held. Oliver laughed. “The giraffe is taller than our whole house!” A few steps away, a giant elephant flapped its ears and sprayed water with its trunk. The children cheered, “The elephant is having a bath!”

In the monkey park, a cheeky monkey swung from branch to branch, dropping a nut near Oliver. “That monkey nearly hit me!” he shouted, though he was laughing. Across the path, a black and white zebra grazed peacefully. Its stripes made it look like a moving painting.

The children’s favourite was the panda. The round, fluffy panda sat under a tree, munching happily on bamboo. “The panda looks like a teddy bear,” Sophie sighed. Speaking of bears, the next enclosure held a big brown bear that was dozing in the shade. When the bear yawned, Oliver could see its teeth.

Near the playground, they found a kangaroo hopping across the grass. The kangaroo had a tiny baby in its pouch, peeking out with curious eyes. “The kangaroo jumps higher than me!” Oliver cried, trying to bounce along.

In the bird section, a colourful parrot squawked loudly. “Hello! Hello!” it called. The children giggled as the parrot repeated their voices again and again.

Then came the more dangerous animals. A long green snake slithered across a rock, its tongue flicking in and out. “That snake looks scary,” Sophie whispered. In the water pit, a huge crocodile floated almost silently. When the crocodile opened its mouth, they could see rows of sharp teeth.

The wild animals didn’t stop there. The children gasped when they saw the mighty rhino. The rhino stomped heavily, its horn pointing like a sword. Next to it was the hippo, half asleep in the water. Every now and then, the hippo opened its mouth so wide it looked like it was laughing.

Finally, they came to the cold zone. A group of black-and-white penguins waddled and slid across the ice. One penguin dived into the pool, splashing water everywhere. “The penguins are the funniest of all,” Sophie decided.

On the way out, they passed a tall camel. The camel had two humps and walked slowly, chewing grass. “The camel can live in the desert for days without water,” Granddad explained.

By the end of the day, Oliver and Sophie were tired but happy. They had seen every animal — the proud lion, the strong tiger, the gentle elephant, the tall giraffe, the funny monkey, the striped zebra, the fluffy panda, the sleepy bear, the hopping kangaroo, the talking parrot, the slithering snake, the dangerous crocodile, the heavy rhino, the lazy hippo, the playful penguin, and the slow camel.

“It was the best zoo adventure ever,” said Oliver. Sophie nodded, holding her toy penguin. “Next time,” she smiled, “I want to see the lion roar!”
