📖 The Trouble With Tom’s Shopping Trip
Tom loved going shopping, but today he felt nervous. He only had a little money, and he didn’t want to spend too much. Some things in the big department store were cheap, but many were very expensive, and he needed to choose carefully.
He walked down the first aisle and checked every shelf. He wanted to order a new lamp for his room, but the price cost more than he expected. “I can’t pay that,” he whispered. “It’s far too expensive.” He decided to look for something cheap instead.
Tom moved to another department, where toys were stacked high on the shelf. A friendly worker told him, “These toys sell very fast. There’s a big demand for them this week.” Tom thought about buying one for his cousin, but again, the cost was still high.
After walking for a long time, he finally found a book that was cheap enough. He decided to pay for it and join the long queue at the checkout. The queue moved slowly, and Tom felt tired, but he waited because he wanted to spend his money wisely.
When he reached the checkout, he handed over the book. But the cashier frowned. “This one is damaged. You should return it or choose another.” Tom didn’t want a damaged book, so he asked for a refund. The cashier agreed and placed the refund slip in Tom’s hand.
Tom walked back to the shelf to find a better book, but all the good ones had already sold out; the demand had been too high. He sighed. “I’ll just order one online instead.” The worker nodded and said, “Online delivery is quick this week.”
So Tom sat at a small computer stand in the store and made his order. The book he chose was still cheap, and the delivery would come the next day. It didn’t cost much at all, and he didn’t need to stand in another queue.
As he left the store, Tom laughed. He hadn’t planned to return anything or ask for a refund, but at least he didn’t spend too much. And tomorrow, when the delivery arrived, he’d finally have the book he wanted — without the stress of a crowded department store.
In the end, he learned two things: sometimes the things that sell the fastest aren’t the best, and sometimes ordering online is easier than walking from shelf to shelf. Tom walked home feeling calm, knowing he’d made good choices and saved money too.
