📖 The Great Supermarket Sale
It was a bright Saturday morning, and Lucy was excited. Her favourite supermarket had announced a big sale, and she planned to get the best offers before anyone else. With her reusable bag in one hand and a shopping basket in the other, she walked quickly through the busy market street towards the store.
When she arrived, the shop was already full of people. The staff were smiling but clearly tired, running around to help every customer. A young assistant at the door handed Lucy a leaflet. “We have a 50% discount on fruit and vegetables today,” he said cheerfully.
“Thank you!” Lucy replied, feeling lucky. She walked past the shelves, checking each price carefully. There were so many great offers—buy one, get one free, or special discounts for regular buyers. She picked up some apples, bread, and milk, then added a box of chocolates she didn’t really need but couldn’t resist because of the sale.
In the next aisle, an older customer was arguing with a shop assistant about a missing receipt. “I’m sure I paid for this cheese,” the woman said, waving her bag in frustration.
The assistant smiled patiently. “No problem, madam. Let me check the bill for you.”
Lucy watched with sympathy, happy that the staff were polite and helpful even when things got busy. She continued shopping, filling her basket until it was almost too heavy to carry.
When she finally reached the checkout, she joined a long queue of tired but satisfied buyers. The man in front of her joked, “Feels like the whole town came for this sale, doesn’t it?”
Lucy laughed. “Yes, but with these prices, who can blame them?”
At the counter, the friendly store clerk greeted her. “Did you find everything you needed today?”
“I did, thank you. And the discounts are amazing!” she replied.
The clerk scanned each item, printed the receipt, and handed it over with a smile. “That’ll be £28.50, please.”
Lucy checked the bill, nodded, and paid. She placed everything carefully into her bag, feeling pleased with her morning. As she was about to leave, the same young assistant who had given her the leaflet called out, “Don’t forget to enter the lucky buyer draw! One customer wins free groceries for a month!”
Lucy laughed. “Really? I’ll do that right now!” She filled in her name and slipped the paper into the box near the entrance.
As she stepped out of the store and back into the lively market, she smiled at the sight of other people carrying their own shopping bags, chatting about their finds. The day felt cheerful, full of small victories and good bargains.
Maybe, she thought, clutching her receipt, she’d be the lucky customer after all. And even if she wasn’t, she had already won—with a basket full of offers, a friendly shop, and a wonderful start to the weekend.
