On the edge of Stonehill village stood an ancient gate covered with strange carvings. Children often played there, tracing a circle, a square, or a star with their fingers. But one evening, Henry, a curious boy, noticed something unusual: the carvings seemed to form a map.
At the top of the gate was a triangle, next to a long rectangle and a narrow oval. Beneath them was a glowing heart, and next to it, a shining diamond. Above everything, an arrow pointed towards the forest.
Henry decided to follow it. He ran past the meadows, and there on the ground he found stones shaped like a pentagon and a hexagon. Each one seemed to light up as he stepped on it. Soon he reached an old pond, where the water formed a perfect semicircle.
“Go on,” whispered a voice in the wind. Henry looked around but saw only the moon, which shone like a silver crescent in the night sky.
He continued, counting his steps. Suddenly, the path ended at a strange tower built of stacked trapezoids. On the door was a great cross, and above it, another glowing circle.
Henry pushed the door open. Inside, shapes floated in the air: squares, stars, hearts, diamonds, and arrows, spinning like a magical dance. Each shape pulsed with colour, from the soft red of a heart to the golden shine of a star.
The walls were decorated with drawings of rectangles, triangles, and ovals, and on the floor lay larger stones shaped as a pentagon, hexagon, octagon, and even a giant trapezoid. It was as if the whole tower was alive with geometry.
At the centre, Henry found an ancient book. The first page showed a circle with a cross inside it. The second page had a shining star and a glowing heart. The final page displayed the moon in its crescent shape, next to a large semicircle.
The message was clear: shapes were more than just drawings. They were the keys to hidden places and secret powers.
When Henry left the tower, the night sky was bright with stars. The crescent moon smiled above, and an arrow of light pointed back to his village. He returned home safely, carrying the memory of the magical shapes.
From that day on, Henry never looked at a circle or a square the same way again. A triangle could mean a mountain, a rectangle a doorway, an oval a path, a diamond a treasure, and a heart a promise. Even the strangest forms – a pentagon, a hexagon, an octagon, a semicircle, or a trapezoid – could hold secrets.
The villagers said Henry had found the “Language of Shapes,” and he knew it was true. Every arrow, every cross, every shining star was part of the story of Stonehill.
