📖 The Secret Garden Parade
On a warm summer morning, young Oliver discovered a hidden corner of his grandmother’s garden. To his surprise, the place was alive with tiny creatures preparing for what looked like a secret parade.
First came the ant, marching in perfect lines, each carrying a crumb bigger than itself. Oliver watched as more ants joined, their teamwork so precise it seemed like a little army. A buzzing sound made him turn, and there was a bee, flying quickly from flower to flower. The bees seemed busier than anyone else, their golden bodies glowing in the sun.
Suddenly, a bright butterfly drifted past, its wings like painted glass. Another butterfly joined, and together they danced in the air. Near Oliver’s shoes, a tiny bug crawled slowly over a stone. He bent down and noticed even more little bugs scuttling about, each one with its own direction.
Then he spotted a shiny green beetle. The beetles, with their hard shells, looked like little knights in armour. But Oliver had to wave his hand when a fly began circling his head. The flies were cheeky, never staying in one place for long.
From the corner of his eye, Oliver saw a spider building a web between two branches. The spider’s web sparkled with morning dew like silver thread. Just as he leaned closer, a high-pitched whine filled the air—it was a mosquito. Oliver quickly brushed it away, but more mosquitoes seemed to hum near the pond.
On a leaf, he noticed a plump caterpillar, munching happily. The caterpillars looked slow, but Oliver remembered that one day they would turn into butterflies. A sudden leap startled him—it was a grasshopper, its long legs springing across the garden. More grasshoppers joined, clicking and chirping as if they were playing violins.
He smiled as a red ladybug landed on his hand, its black spots bright against its shell. Another ladybug joined, and Oliver realised these lucky insects were also called ladybirds. Soon, more ladybirds flew by, like tiny drops of colour in the air.
Near the soil, a worm wriggled out, twisting its soft body through the dirt. Other worms appeared too, helping to keep the garden healthy. A sharp buzzing drew Oliver’s attention again—this time it was a wasp. The wasps, with their yellow stripes, looked fiercer than the bees, so he stepped back carefully.
By the pond, a graceful dragonfly hovered. Its wings shimmered blue and green, and another dragonfly zipped past like a tiny helicopter. Just then, Oliver noticed a quiet moth resting in the shade. Unlike butterflies, the moths preferred the cool and the dark, and they seemed almost secretive.
As the sun rose higher, all the insects together made the garden feel like a living orchestra. Oliver realised he had stumbled upon a grand celebration of nature, where every creature—from the tiny ant to the glittering dragonfly—played its part.
That day, he promised himself to look more closely at the small world around him, for in every bug, bee, and butterfly, there was a story waiting to be told.
