📖 The Fire in the Cold Mountain
High on a mountain, where the snow never melted and the wind sang through the rocks, lived a young hunter named Daniel. Every morning, he would take a walk by the river and the lake, looking for fresh water and signs of animals. Life was hard in the cold, for people needed food, and the winter made it difficult to find.
One day, while searching near a frozen cave, Daniel saw the paw prints of a bear in the snow. The tracks led past a pile of stone and into the shadows of the cave. He knew the bear might bring danger, but also meat for the village. With his spear ready, he stepped carefully inside.
The cave was dark, the air full of ice and silence. Suddenly, the ground shook as a great bear rose from behind a rock. Daniel froze, but before the bear could charge, a low growl came from deeper in the cave. Out of the darkness slipped a tiger, its eyes bright like fire.
Now the hunter was caught between the bear and the tiger. The wind outside howled as if warning him. He thought quickly: animals feared fire. He grabbed dry stone and struck it with another rock until sparks flew. Soon a small fire burned. The cold shadows fled, and the animals stepped back. The bear turned and left for the mountain path, and the tiger slipped away towards the river.
Daniel breathed deeply, his hands shaking. The fire had saved him. He took some dried meat from his bag and placed it on the ground, hoping it would keep the animals away from his village. Then he returned home, carrying his story instead of prey.
That night, the villagers gathered around a great fire to hear his tale. They ate the little food they had and watched sparks rise into the cold wind. Daniel told them, “The mountain, the lake, the river, and even the animals—all are stronger than us. But with courage and fire, we can live with them.”
The people nodded, and though the snow kept falling and the ice still covered the land, their hearts were warm.
