📖 The Christmas Airport Mystery
It was Christmas Eve, and Jake was ready to travel home after a long year abroad. The airport was busy with people carrying bags, gifts, and smiles. Outside, snow was falling softly, covering the ground like a white blanket. The air was cold, and when the water from the melting ice touched the floor, it made everything a little wet and slippery.
Jake stood near a store, eating a slice of pizza and checking his phone. His flight was delayed, so he decided to walk around. He stopped to buy a toothbrush and some chocolate as small Christmas presents. Everyone seemed in a good mood—except for one man.
The man wore a dark coat and a hat pulled low. He kept looking around nervously. When Jake passed him, the man dropped something. Jake bent down to pick it up and saw a small switch with wires attached. It looked strange.
Before Jake could say anything, the man snatched it back and hurried away. Jake’s heart started to race. “That was weird,” he thought. He quickly went to the security desk and told an officer what he had seen.
“Good job reporting it,” said the security guard. “We’ve had warnings about a criminal who tries to rob passengers in big airports during Christmas. We’ll check the cameras right away.”
A few minutes later, the guard came back. “You were right! That man is wanted. He tries to rob people while pretending to help them with their luggage.”
Jake felt both scared and proud. He waited near the gate while the security team looked for the man. Soon, two officers walked past with the criminal in handcuffs. The man looked angry, but Jake knew it was the right thing to do.
“Thanks for your help,” one officer said. “Because of you, he won’t rob anyone else tonight.”
Relieved, Jake went to buy another pizza and sat down with a hot drink, watching the snow fall outside. The airport speakers played soft Christmas songs, and children laughed nearby.
After a while, the announcement came: “Flight 207 now boarding.” Jake stood up, grabbed his bag, and headed to the gate. He showed his ticket and walked down the aisle of the plane, finally feeling calm.
When the plane took off, he looked out of the window. The city lights below shone on the ice and water, making everything sparkle. Jake smiled.
He took out his phone and called his mum. “I’m on my way, Mum,” he said. “Merry Christmas!”
She laughed. “Safe travel, Jake! I’ve got your favourite pizza waiting.”
Jake chuckled. It had been a strange day—but also a lucky one. He leaned back, thinking how one small switch, one smart decision, and one brave moment had made this Christmas unforgettable.
