📖 The Winter Storm Surprise
It was a cold winter evening when Emma arrived in the city for her holiday trip. She had saved her money for months and wanted to make this trip special. The taxi driver smiled as he drove her through the shining streets full of lights and music.
When the taxi stopped in front of her hotel, Emma paid the driver, grabbed her bag, and went inside. The hotel lobby was warm and bright, a perfect place to escape the winter wind. She got her room key from the receptionist and went upstairs, ready for a quiet evening.
She had a nice hot shower and changed for dinner. There was a small restaurant downstairs, and she ordered a hot soup, fresh bread, and a drink of orange juice. Everything tasted wonderful. She felt relaxed and full of fun energy, planning what to do the next day.
But then, suddenly — a storm began outside. Rain hit the windows, and the sound of thunder filled the air. A few minutes later, all the lights went out. The electricity was gone. Emma laughed nervously. “Well, that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?” she said aloud, though she wasn’t so sure.
She tried to charge her phone, but the plug didn’t work — of course, no electricity! She checked the cable, just in case, but it was fine. She looked out the window and saw the whole street dark, only the headlights of a few taxis moving slowly through the rain.
Downstairs, the restaurant staff lit candles, and people started talking and laughing. Someone played a guitar. The atmosphere changed — from worry to warmth. Emma joined a small group of travellers and shared stories about their trips. One woman gave her a small gift — a candle shaped like a snowflake.
“That’s lovely,” Emma said, feeling touched. She wanted to give something back but had no money on her at that moment. Instead, she promised to buy her new friend a drink when the power returned.
Hours passed, and the storm finally grew quiet. The lights flickered back on. Everyone cheered, happy that the electricity was working again. Emma smiled and looked at her snowflake gift. It reminded her that even a storm could bring kindness and new friendships.
The next morning, when she checked out, she returned the room key and thanked the hotel staff for making the night so special. As she walked down the street to catch her taxi, she looked at the bright winter sky.
Her trip hadn’t gone as planned, but she realised something important — sometimes, the best memories come when everything goes a bit wrong.
